I'm a 24-year old moving to Doha at the end of August; any friendly advice?

I've a position with a Qatari agency and will have housing/transport provided, so I'm taken care of there, but I'm somewhat anxious about the resources of the city. You know the questions: What's available for fun? Are there English libraries? Good tailors? Places to shop? How can I meet other people? Anyway, you get the point.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm exited to hear anything you might have to say on it.

Cheers,

Drew

Hey! We'll be welcoming you in Qatar soon then! That's a good tip from Novita. Once you are here, never ever compare Qatar to any country or else you'll just devastate yourself. :)

Take your experience here as it is. Meet the right people and you're good to go! It's not that bad like they say it is.

For fun you can go to the souq, sit at one of the restaurants, smoke sheesha if you like it. You can go to shopping malls. You can drive around the desert and spot some camels. You can go to the souq and find different things. If you like the beach, you can drive to the beach and spend some time there, you can even have a barbeque if you like it.There are also lots of nice restaurants in Doha, mostly in hotels. A lot of the hotels also have pubs that you can go to and have a drink.

I do not know if there are English libraries but there are some bookshops like Virgin and Jarir.

There are tons of tailors here.

There are tons of shopping malls and supermarkets.

You can meet people at all those places above and you can also become an active member of QL and join the social group, they organize nice outings.

Good luck!

1- Don’t expect fun activates like in US. .You can have limited fun, like discos and bars, bowling, pool, cinema etc.

2- Good men’s Tailors not very common, but there are few who specialized in making suits etc.

3- Thee is British Library for English books

4- You can join Qatar living Social Group and be active in the forum you can meet lots of like minded people from around the globe.

There are many Americans in this Qatar Living, they can give you answer to any specific concern. Be

little conscious about dating and hanging out with friends of opposite gender.

Thanks! I'm actually interested in tips like that one, too. I've done my research, but info on the cultural "to dos" are just as important as the "to gos" and the "to meets." Any help is appreciated!!

when you get here, never compare Qatar with wherever you come from. Take your stay as an experience ...

Never have a very high expectation, or you will get disappointed if what your see and get not as good as what you expect.

Bring plenty sense of humour ...

And if you post regular on QL, there is a social group that run by our member call DaRuDe ... once you show who you are by your posts you can ask him to join the group.

Meet the right people and you can have lots of fun :P :P

You are lucky, 24 means you can legally drink

(never drink and drive and do that kind of stuff though... you can have fun around here, but you really need to respect the culture and limits of the fun and freedom given....)
