Hi guys,,,
I hav noticed that many members of Qatar living while posting their comments pointing like ,
"since u r an indian that salary would b ok for you... "
this is just an example. i hav seen many like this. Especially from Europeans.

We are here because we don't hav much good career opportunities in our country. But those who make such discrimination should ask a question to themselves that if u feel your country is good and others are second category u could hav tried some jobs there itself.Since your country is already developed.

dont you feel this must b pointed out and discussed in QL.
Please add your comments....

Racism is not just in companies or universities... This racism is taught to the Qatari's since they are kids... Their kids will also treat other nation people badly and rudely. Also they give u looks as if you are disgusting... Lyk what the heck... They like fair people and foreigners only.. Why do Qatari's have so much racism in them?? Like what the hell??

A small note to some friends who made their comments here saying that the European Expats are paid more than their Indian/Asian counterparts becuse of their higher educational standards. It is not necessarily the higher education and their higher standards in all cases. In many cases it will be the pre-determination of their employers who believe that the Eurpeans will deliver their job much better than an Indian or Asian. I have been here for quite long time and I do remember a guy from a European country who was a mere newspaper boy in his country was given the job of a Manager where as there were Indians/Asians in that company who were much educated working under him as his Assistant. The Employer was very much in favour of the white skin and still are. As per my knowledge there are many Empolyers in Qatar who are looking at the skin/tongue of their employees and I know some of my friends working as Managers for 15 years in a Company getting half salary of another National who has got white skin/tongue who delivers not even 75% of the others.

Also as aussie was saying i do completely agree with him that expats do most of the hard work than locals in all government sectors.why?thats the way it is.

So,u have to live with it mate.

Unfortunetly the entire world is run on this system... The caste system defined by race. Apologies for whom ever write the original question but the moment you by something from MacDonalds, or any general consumption product- you are generally conforming to a racist and capitalist system. Think about where and how the things you eat, wear and se come from! My guess is atleast 50% are produced by under paid employees.

There are no 'white people' working in Mac Donalds (or any minimum wage jobs)here in Doha and there are few working in these situations in the UK or other European places.

Yes it is wrong, yes it is unjust but unfortunetley simply participating in general day to day life here and in many other parts of the world, you contribute to the racist caste system which dominates most parts of the world.

I undestand that you can change things but I feel pretty helpless, so I just make sure I am really nice and compassionate to those who are not as lucky as others.

racism in every country exists, here in Qatar though some of us would say its gross and not true it still exist, many asians are not treated well by their employers because of the color of their skin, the manner they talk and the way they carry themselves in the public. The white people will always be given priority, its like this; the capacity to deliver the goods is base on the color of the skin, and that is the bitter truth, its the reality, I am not saying this because i hate white people, actually I have lots of American and European friends, the mere fact they are the ones telling me this things. Racism is and will always be a part of any society, all we can is to do some changes in our perception about people let us not look at humans as black, white or brown but as human being enjoying life to living in this world given to us by God.

This is a very difficult question to answer based purely on what salary of one person gets over another. Now then, whatever I say some people will disagree, but it is the way the world works I’m afraid, not that I condone it.

Firstly, Salaries paid are based on a whole raft of things and indeed the position offered is only half the battle. Not always but mostly, when I have interviewed people, we look for, experience, education, qualifications (usually where did they get them) and their ability to develop, both themselves and the company.

Unfortunately experience is not the overriding factor, so comparing and Indian nationals experience with a Brit or an American is not going to, alone, answer the question as to why one gets more money than the other.

Qualifications, where they got them and more importantly how they have used them, really do stand out. US and UK universities are amongst the best in the world and the quality of education is therefore second to none. This gives them a massive advantage in the workplace than someone who did not attend these universities.

I suspect if you narrow it down a bit and say, those who attended the Ivy league universities will stand to get a better paid job than those who didn't get there degree there, will make my point. In Qatar most of the education gained by western ex pats will be from universities of a much higher grade than those from India. (Now then, I am not saying that the western expats are any better, but it is the perception) And with this perception it is understood that as they are bright enough to attend these universities (top 10% in their country) they will both do their job and help to develop the company much better.

Qatar is a growing city, which is growing quick and indeed is meant to grow quick. Hiring people as described above makes employers believe that they can develop their business much more quickly using people who are deemed to be in the top 10% of educated people in their respective countries. Unfortunately the top 10% in America will always we more highly educated than the top 10% in India, why? Because the top teachers and Professors attend these universities, and therefore the out put is better.

So in summary, the reason I THINK western ex pats get more money for the same job as say an Indian national is based upon education and in that the perception of how you can do the job.

I believe The biggest racism in Qatar exists on these forms.

As for jobs and salaries I just hope ppl can stop talking about this. they are giving you a job offer... if you like it take it if not .... don't

same thing about the whole (enslaving ppl in Gulf) which is especially pointed out by western countries that would deport these (enslaved ppl)if the came to work there.if they were abused they can just leave. and since they are staying I bet they r more happy here than anywhere else

Racism really exist and that's the reality not only in Qatar but everywhere.

Racism is a cardinal error indeed one could argue akin to an original sin.

However I think what goes around comes around and in this case I think that perhaps the caste system of the Indian/Arab culture is reciprocating onto the very people who invented it.

Racism is wrong whatever your culture and one should STAMP it out.

it doesn't matter if it is acceptable or not. it always exist. now if you feel you are a victim then don't just stop or be quite. speak out and make them feel they are wrong as "Merits should be recognize based on persons capacity not sex, gender or skin color!!!"

yes racism does exist not only in QL but in the whole of qatar. i will give some examples:

1.people from the subcontinent are not allowed into major places like CC, souq waqif etc.

2.as u stated salries are much higher than what it is for the same indian performing a similar job.

3.The police sometimes tend to take the side of a local or a white person during problems such as traffic accidents.

It's not the members of Qatar Living being racist, it's just the way of things in Qatar!

I mean that some companies to not offer high salaries to Indians, but much higher to British/American, so they mean that the salary is good for an indian, because they won't be able to get higher because of the company, not because they think it's okay.

Like a salary of 20,000 is very good for an Indian doing some job, but the salary for an American doing the same job is likely to be 40,000, so for an indian, the 20,000 is good, because it's his highest, but if an American was offered the 20,000, it isn't good, because he can get higher..

look at any starting salary slabs available with HR at some companies. There are different salary slabs for western expats and asians for the same position. That is unfortunately the case in the middle east.If you've accepted your salary at the time of signing the first contract, prove your worth to the company to increase it the next year around - maybe more than a western expat

btw there are no career options in India??? I think you need to speak for yourself.
