Qatar has always been involved in sports, and has hosted several international sporting tournamnets including football, cricket, and tennis games.

With National Sports Day fast approaching, the Qatar Olympic Committee together with the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics have launched a survey to rate the quality of services provided by existing sports and recreational facilities in the country in an attempt to engage the community in sports.

In the survey, residents are asked to suggest what they would like to see in the new facilities that are being built, based on which measures will be taken to revamp existing facilities as well. The are also asked to give feedback on the exisiting facilities.

Having sports arenas is one thing and making it available to residents is another. And Qatar should look for more indoor facilities so that residents can aprticipate in sports though out the year.

"Qatar has always been involved in sports, and has hosted several international sporting tournamnets including football, cricket, and tennis games."

Ummm - hosting sporting events and "being involved in sports" are two very different things.

Even when you watch the local club football you constantly hear names like Raul... the locals have never been encouraged to actively participate in sports. They see sports as a spectator activity, not a participatory one.
