Take the apartment or the housing allowance?

The company is offering me either to take a 2 bedroom apartment in a compound they have or to take a QR8,000 housing allowance, which one should I go with?

pls note I still have no idea what rent is like around here, still a newbie.

(the description sounds like it). Or do you know the name of the compound? That will help people to advise you better.

BTW, if it is in Al-Samrya, this is a very nice compound, I think and the apartments are great!

Think company was paying 11000 for my one bedroom serviced appartment at Ezdan. Rents are crazy

well the apartment is quite good, the compound comes with its own gym, pool, supermarket, dry cleaner, cafe...etc.

I just wanted to know whether I would find something on par with that or better for QR8000.

if you're single, take the allowance and maybe more than half of it will go to your pocker, but if you want no headaches in looking for a rented flat take the provided housing

Hard to choose.

If you take the apartment, then yes you do get avoid the hassle of finding a place, rent increases etc. But on the other hand, you do not know what the apartment is like, and might not be up to your standards, or where you want to live.

I guess the decision is between inconvenience of finding your own place, versus renting a place that is comfortable and suitable for your own personal needs and comfort. It may be that the apartment they are offering does suit you though. Maybe explain to them that you are unable to decide, and ask if it's possible for some pictures of the apartment, and where it is.

LOL Stone Cold,

Most people's profiles say Qatari.

We're only 12% of the population, but 80% of the profiles on QL say Qatari... some people don't like to disclose their real nationality.

If it were me, I'd take the housing provide.....less headaches. Do a search on renting a property on this site to see some of the hassles people come across

smile lots laugh more

If your profile is a Qatari and if your house is within Doha, then why not stay at your home and save the Qr8,000?

or have a wife and family. I think of the company accommodation is good and has good facilities in the compound, I would take that. It might not be so easy to get a good 2 BR apt with full facilities in a nice area for 8000.

take the QR8k allowance and get your own place, its better to live outside your company premises....

Depending

If you do not mind to share your accommodation, or downgrade yourself to a 1 bedroom apartment. I would take the 8000, once sharing you can put 3 to 4000 in your pocket.

If your family is here and you really need 2 bedrooms or just really need your privacy, take the accommodation.

Take the allowance, Two Bedroom apartment cost you between 4500QAR- 15000QAR, depends on your liking...

I guess opting for the 2 bedroom apartment offer by the company is a good choice, provided it is suitably located and includes maintenance. A decent two bedroom flat would cost about the same if not more and besides, you will always have to take care of the monthly payments to landlord and pray he does not increase the rent or even evict you from the apartment.
