Tips on Driving in Qatar

A few tips on Driving in Qatar

1) Try to keep distance from the people of following. (graded according to the risk):

-) Drunk
a) Qatari
b) Indian / Egyptions
c) Sudanese
d) Women
e) Palestinians
f) Pakistani
g) Lebanese

2) Try to be in the middle lane most of the time, unless you wanna turn.
3) Keep distance between your car and the person who's talking on the phone, eating, chatting, picking nose, drooling over the woman in the next car and fixing their make up while driving.
4) If you are in the fast lane, dont drive below the speed limit and dont drive above it either.
5) Be ware of people who drive without using their indicators (usually found in Land crusiers) I guess its a factory defect.
6) People do tend to stay 10 meters away from the traffic signal, causing the delay in the lights to turn green.
7) Stay as far as you can from the cars that have tints on all the windows.
8) People have this tendency to park their cars in the middle of the road for no reason, even when there is a parking available after 5 meters.
9) People here do not get off their cars at the grocery stores, instead the sales person comes out and serves them.
10) People do over take from the right side, alot of them do actually.
11) Alot of 4x4 drivers could over take you and press breaks for no reason.
12) Don't be angry if your car got scratched, things could've been worse.
13) Hit and run is quite common.
14) Baby on board signs are useless.
15) Under age driving... quite common aswell, I've seen 12 year old kids drive with their fully tinted land cruisers.
16) Always have one hand on your horn and one on the flasher.

If driving near a jerk and he gives:
17) One right indicator it means the person is cursing at your mom.
18) One left indicator it means the person is cursing at your sister.

19) 2 Hazard light flashes means its race time.
20) People do give right indicator and take a left turn.
21) If your parking spot gets taken when u wait for the guy to come out, you have the right to kill the guy who took your spot, but some people tend to act like jerks... then u can beat the living hell out of them, the problem comes when the cops arrive and interrogate, ofcourse you will go to jail and the real sinner will escape.
22) It is ok to drive in an emergency lane, just to go ahead of the traffic. Ofcourse if you get caught, there will be a big fine waiting for you.
23) People do park on the pedestrian or the side walks.
24) (from Gypsy) Don't be afraid to use a small child as an airbag, everyone else is doing it.

Thats all for now, will come up with more stuff when I experience other things lol.

Mallus Rock! They're the most enterprising people in the whole of India. The reason why the "Gelf" has so many Mallus is because the other Indians didnt have the "BOLLS" to come out here in the desert n make it what it is now. Tell me another state in Inda whichh has 100% literacy inspite of the high density of population please!!

Which car is faster in a quarter mile racing track?

a. The Ferrari

B. The Porsche

C. The Lamborguini

D. The Tesla Roadster

e. The BMW Roadster,

D. The Mercedez Clarion

E. The Mustang GTO

For the test time please visit this web site and pick any model you wish.

http://www.exoticcarsite.com/0-60-quarter-mile-times.htm

The answer is the Tesla Roadster.

The Tesla Roadster is a fully electric sports car, and is the first car produced by electric car firm Tesla Motors. The car can travel 220 mi (350 km) on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack and accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.9 seconds with the development transmission.

We all know that the streets of Qatar are not a race track, Correct me, If I'm wrong boys and girls.

That’s true but...

More Mallus are now in US & Europe than in Gelf..lol

They dont need to come to Gelf for eating Motta rice & fish curry which is easily avaialble in their place.

A good number of them are earning more than that figure in a year(not talking about the poor laborers..but those who can afford a car)

Which makes them easy to buy a home in India and a good car here in Qatar... LOL

fair enough - i was only addressing the part in your post about not criticizing.

i haven't been to india but i spent 2 years driving in cairo so i know that there are many factors that contribute to bad driving. if the majority of people there or here drove in canada, they would lose their licenses and insurance in no time, and spend thousands of dollars paying tickets and fines.

Y Indian's driving culture is so..

I think the reasons are:-

1. In our home country most roads are narrow & congested with vehicles, pedestrians, cows, cycle riskhaw, horse etc (Example Delhi, Mumbai, Culcutta roads)

So driving here in qatar is just like kids play for us

2. most of the people won't obey trafic rules

3. If we do any trafic violation we could get away with Rs.100 i.e. 9 riyals in most cases

4. If we make an accident, muscle power or cost/size of the vehicle will decide the culprit.

5. repairing of the vehicle can be done very easily & insurance laws are customer friendly

We mastered our driving skills in the above said atmosphere.

Becos of the strict laws, we adapted to the situation prevailing in qatar..You people have to appreciate us than criticising......

By Withnail• 16 Jul 2008 11:18
Rating: 2/5
Withnail

your post may explain the situation but it does not excuse it. doesn't anyone take responsibility for their actions anymore?

indian drivers in canada on average are pretty good because our society takes bad driving seriously and the fines/costs can be very high. part of the problem in qatar is there are not many police on the roads because of the speed cameras, which don't do anything to reduce reckless driving.

but regardless of this, the people most responsible for indian driving culture are indians, and as long as bad drivers put our lives at risk we will be within our rights to criticize.

of course not every person fits the stereotype, but it is not wrong to say that on average people from country X or Y are terrible drivers. no one is suggested that people from country X or Y are inherently inferior or anything like that, it's just different levels of education/societal norms/cultural norms/arrogance etc.

if people from a particular place can't drive well, it's only by calling them out and helping them realize that they can't drive well that the situation will improve.

STEP 1: admit you have a problem. it's as true for bad drivers as it is for drunks.

In slow moving traffic NEVER leave any space between your car and the one in front of you.

Treat all other drivers as your enemies.

Avoid using blinkers and exposing your intention cause you will be cut off instantly.

Avoid eye contact or your enemies will consider this a weakness and still cut you off.

Beware of old bashed up cars, the driver has nothing to lose!

Do NOT fasten your seatbelt so that in case of an accident you are ready to jump out and start the fight. Only belt you need is a black belt ;)

1-Why the majority of Qatar Nationals don't use seat belts?

2- Would you consider that issue a form of Loyalty?

Let me help you Mr. mohdkhan:

I believe is completely disloyal and lacks personal integrity in not to follow the traffic and safety Laws of Qatar.

WHO IS DISLOYAL?

1-The users of seat belts,

2-The Users of child seatbelt restrainers?

3-The road speeders?

4- The drivers who don't care about traffic laws at all?
