Watch out when paying at Doha Airport.

Just a heads up. I was at the airport today dropping someone off and after being there less than 30 minutes paid my 4QR for parking at the machines provided at the departure terminal. After paying, I walked to my car with my 2 little kids (slowly, as they always do) then received a phone call. Anyway, by the time I arrived at the kiosk to leave the parking lot and handed the woman my PAID parking ticket she said I owed her 4QR. No, I paid at the machine I told her and I was only in the parking lot less than 45 minutes. Apparently, it took me 18 minutes to go from the machine I paid at to the kiosk at the exit. Yes, I realize that's slow. But, if you take more than 15 minutes from the time you pay to the time you drive out it as if you have never PAID!!! Fortunately, it was only an extra hour I needed to pay. What if my friend was delayed and I had been there a few hours?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible system? What about those evenings where there is a line of 20 cars waiting to get out. I can understand charging you for any extra time you stayed in the lot (such as if you paid for 1 hour but by the time you left the lot you had been there for 3) but my TOTAL TIME in the lot was 45 minutes and I had to pay for 2 hours. Sure, only 4QR but the amount is not the point of my gripe with that system.

Are there any China Dolls in the Airport?

Why should you take more than 15 mins to leave the car park ?

I mean seriously.. Most of us can get excited, have a bit of rumpy pumpy, smoke a cigatrette and kiss the China Doll goodbye in that time..:)

HA! I pay more than 30% income tax home and still pay for parking, which also has tax on it.

Death and Taxes...

He never said it was exorbitant. He was complaining about the system.

Honestly, I didn't even know there were machines! I just pay at the gate on the way out.

Seems like otherwise, you'd be going through the motions twice.

15 mins is nothing ... New Castle Airport only give you 5 mins to drop off the passenger before they start charging you 5 riyals :)

This is reasonable I think also. If it was longer than 15 minutes everyone would pay just befpre the hour was up and could possibly stay in the airport for another 20-25 minutes. If you spread this out over let say 25% of the cars in a day in the parking it is a massive revenue loss.

One good thing about the airport parking is that if you are there less than 15 minutes it is free. I have gotten lucky a few times with this :)

Just FYI, parking fees at Dubai International Airport, 10 AED / 30 minutes and add 5 AED if it is 31 minutes (15 AED / hour). Driving from Media City to Airport, 2 Salik (toll) gates ( Mall of emirates and Garhoud Bridge) = 8AED, return add another 8 AED. So total trip to airport in your own car would cost approx. 31 AED. Yesterday I paid QR 8.00 instead of QR 4.00 for parking due to a delayed flight. It is not my mistake but I had to pay for it. Did I complain about it?

If they made parking free people would park there and then go and shop or leave their cars. Sure they have to charge and it is feck all. Get real all Airports charge. You're kidding yourself.

Clearly those of you who say 15 min is enough time have never tried moving from one place to an other with 2 toddlers! One must double the amount of time that is "reasonable" to get from one place to an other.

How many airports in the world would do that ?

15 minutes is more than fair ... Ofcourse we could make it free..

it shouldn't really take you more than 15minutes to leave the airport, however it could be that one day it's heavy traffic and you end up going over by a bit. I think they should give you 30 mins.

i just can't wait when INCOME TAX become an issue here,

some people just don't know when to appreciate good life and never knew how lucky they were....

if it's the system which is at fault, then report it or better yet avoid it the next time around.. learning by experience do have some price to pay most of the time.

it is still cheap to park though but I would have been annoyed too. If you have paid you have paid.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
