Hayee kabayans. I will be coming to Qatar soon under a visit visa and will start looking for a job. In line with this "gamble" that I'll take (knowing that there will be fierce competition and all due to the crisis brought by the credit crunch), kindly advise as to the various do's and dont's in looking/applying for a job in Qatar or any information at all, for that matter, which can serve as a guide for me thru all of these in Qatar. Would very much appreciate it po. Thanks so much and mabuhay po. :)

kabayan,

I agree with "metronide" below me I'm here in Doha for 5 months still searching for the best offer I have a lot of interview and offer but the offer is not good. Some employers retrench employees and hire new employee half the salary (last year engineer salary 10k above but now 5k below). But if you have a Job offer here then go......

it not a strict formal thing...it's more of a "decent look"

...it's hard to explain because it's a very thin line between conservative and liberated...but to play it safe...lean towards the conservative side

again GOOD LUCK!

I'm not your Kabayan but I know what the word means, thanks to my Filipino friends.

If you want some really honest advise: DONT COME TO QATAR FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. The global economic meltdown has affected Qatar too, though maybe not as severely as some other countries in the region.

Several companies have frozen their new recruitments as well as ceased offering bonuses, increments and other benefits to their employees. This is true for the public and private sectors.

Arriving here on a visit visa and applying for a job was much easier when things were better, ie, in 2006 and 2007. Now, things have changed drastically. There are jobs, no doubt, but not as many as you would really wish. And, thanks to lay-offs by certain companies, there are lots of skilled and experienced people in the local market looking for jobs.

Honestly speaking, stay off Qatar and anywhere in the GCC region for at least the next six months.

Thanks po. So are they strict corporate (with suits etc.)or semi-formal?

one thing that i could advice is...dress accordingly..

people here are very "sensitive" about how people are dressed...i don't know the exact rules...but try not to show "too much skin"...no cleavage...no mini skirt..no mid rif etc.

because qatar is still a conservative country it's better to be safe than to offend their culture.

GOOD LUCK!

Dont be shy to go building to building giving out your CV.

atleast 2 weeks before coming here:

register at www.bayt.com ... It's like jobstreet.ph...

check out the websites of the companies you're interested in and submit your cv

Do apply for everything, even if you think you can't do it. You'd be surprised how many there are like this already here!

Don't be disheartened when it takes months to get paperwork sorted.

Do check if your package includes accomodation as this will be your biggest expense here.

Do have a good professional looking CV

Don't use different fonts and colours on it. Usue only bold and underline for emphasis, but do this sparingly.

Do speak to friends and forums like this for leads.

There's a starter.

Good Luck
