Dear All,
I am looking for your input regarding the working hour for staff/fixed salary workers.

My company asking to all staffs to work 12 hours x 6 days a week by sending official memo. This working period is without paying any over time.Is there any clause limiting the working hour or fixed salary workers/staffs are considered Bonded labours?

My company also asking staff(through memo) to work on Eid Holidays without paying extra off days or Over time. Is it acceptable? We are a construction company.

Besides Eid Holidays, national day ,we are supposed to get 3 days off as per qatar law .That was also not granted. Even OT paid workers not get OT. is it acceptable as per qatar labour law?

Is there any governing body that takes care of all these issues?

Regards

What choices do you have? In your case, to quit and look for a new job or to do nothing and hope it will pass are the safest way to handle this problem. Consequently, you're going to have to bear it inconveniently and uncomfortably. But to correct or introduce change with their system is more daring and risky. Either you will be rewarded or they'll terminate you, that's uncertain. How do they handle issues such as yours in this country? Does the government support you in this matter? Any possibility to communicate your concern with your boss? Better consider these constrains and advantages before you decide to act on this. Gather more information here in the forum and take extra care with your moves. It's better to be slow but sure specially being emotional than be sorry later.

i am not sure also if Labor Department here is effective.. coz i heared so many companies here, doing the same thing, even my company were i am working, 10 hours a day we are working even though we are recieving a fixed amount as fixed overtime pay, it thus not compensate (as per our basic salary) if we will compute two hours a day & two fridays a month. Miracles is allowed..

yes this is against the law....

but make sure you have the proof for all of these or else the company can always say the opposite for their defense.......

8 Hours x 6 Days a week or 48 hours a week...

For fixed salary as well as OT workers.

You can have look at your contract it should be mentioned as above or as per Qatari Labour Law, if you are clear with your points then contact labour department with some proof like official memo (should be sign by authorised person of company and on company letter head) or contact your embassy.

Here most of the companies doing the same but the problem we are just tolerating everything, I should appreciate phillipinos they are very strict in all these matter n their embassy too. Don't become a slave.

Go ahead...

Yah..it is against the Labour law.

U can contact the Labour Ministry, there is a 98% posibility for black-listing the company..if this is the case..!!
