I just came back from grocery… it is really difficult to compare price 2005 with 2008.

Rice 17 per 5 Kg now 28

Chicken 9 Riyal now 18

Milk powder 49 now 77

Qatari egg 9 riyal a tray now 21

I am just wondering all these get doubled why not Pepsi  and Coke  tin it was 1 Riyal and still 1 Riyal….

Any clues

Rice and other products that are grown depends on the Crops how big they are and how many people actually wants to buy it- i.e. not a unlimited quantity of the product.  Pepsi and Coke if they sell all they produce they can easily produce more and that way price is kept down.

If producers have enough rice for 2billion people and there are  3 billion people that wants rice, guess what - the price goes up..  AGREE ??

Or maybe they can save on the sugar, just see Coca-Cola light, Coca-Cola zero, and Pepsi Light! :)

Yes this is one of the problems that consumer’s good price is going up …. But not really biggest one…

It is funny. 1QR is less than the price I paid in High School for a Coke (well, OK, I paid $0.40 but got $0.10 back on the bottle deposit, so I guess it was pretty much 1 QR).

Pop is cheap because sugar is cheap (and in Qatar, so is desalinated water)--probably one of the most heavily subsidized staples. Plus Qatar has no deposit on the containers--probably a good idea--when Greenland and Antarctica melt, this country will need all the landfill it can get.

If people had to pay the true cost of things in this country (like gasoline...), it would be a very different place.

Don't complain or they'll raise the price. I think the reason is that both Pepsi and Coca Cola want a major share of the market and don't want to raise prices to the advantage of the other. Another way to look at is that even at 1 riyal, they must bge making a profit. So why does it cost so much in other countries?

I hope this will be your biggest problem ever! :)
