I have been here for getting on for 3 years but no-one I ask can tell me why the West Bay, which is on the North edge of the bay, is called the West Bay. As far as I can tell, the only way to get to the West Bay by travelling west is from the sea so I would love to know why the name???
Isn't it because local maps traditionally show the Corniche at the top, rather than being North-orientated and showing the Corniche on the right of the map, the area known as West Bay is on the left, or the "West", of the map.
That's how i've always understood it. Could be completely wrong mind you.
