Your impressions of Qatar por favor!

Hello people,

I'm quite sure I will move to qatar in a month or so. Trying to get informed about it to reduce the amount of culture shock. QL has been quite a resource so far.

Can you tell me what your impressions are? whatever you feel like...short/long, deep/superifical. I'm just looking for different opinions.

I have a multi-cultural background, grew up in Europe, lived in Asia some time, and am moving to Qatar from Puerto Rico. PR is extremely liberal and I have a really high quality of life. Im a single male mid 2o's...gonna be working there on 'minimum wage' but have a great career opportunity in Doha. Im open minded and have visited a lot countries. (Staying in PR is not an option and good jobs are hard to find these days)

I know it seems rather silly, but based on that information; do YOU THINK i will like it?

throw your thoughts at me!

Realy realy hot weather in summer, terrible driving, i hate their impression of people who come to their country.all are not equal and not treated equally.last but not the least, you will feel very lonely and bored but you will survive.

Gracias to everyone!

I think either way the change is gonna be extreme. puerto rico to qatar is probably one of the most extreme changes possible. i can do whatever i want here, its cheap, more girls than guys, not international at all.

Really, i feel like staying here...no visa tho. might have to knock a puertoriquena up and stay. no seriously, im just gonna work, work, work, and get out of doha as soon as confidence in the global economy is back.

thanks again.

1. there are only 8 clubs that you can go to here, not your typical wild clubs...they are rather tamed and always asking for ID and membership when u want to enter.

2. alcohol is regulated, you can only buy one if you have a liquor license. you can get a drink only from hotels which i may say expensive.

3. you cannot kiss and make out in the car because once the police catch you....you are definitely saying goodbye to doha.

4. traffic is bad same like any other countries.

5. wear decent clothes all the time, shorts for girls are not normal here.

but if u are conservative guy, life in doha is for you. goodluck!

QAtar is not PR for sure, but its a safe country with good economic status, people here are kind and good, there is lots of diversity and nationalities in here.

Qatar is liberal but still not very open, after all it obeys an islamic law which limits sexual actions, explicit clothes and extreme open life..

but believe me you will enjoy it once you got some company.

Gd luck and welcome to doha

The country is very liberal islamic state allowing you to live with great protection and safety other than any nation in the middle east. Life is very expensive, changed dramatically the cost of living shooting up to high in couple of years.

If it is temporary you will survive, its not so difficult.

Being a single male mid-20s (I will assume liberal) you will miss PR for sure.

People come here for money. Lifestyle, it depends on income as it will affects where you go, live... etc.

Qatar is somewhere between KSA and Dubai - in terms of liberty.
