YOUR OWN CONTRIBUTION TO ROAD & DRIVING SAFETY

By Kikomodos

You will read & hear tons of complaints, reports, stories of harsh driving, accidents & other bad driving experiences in & out of QatarLiving. I'm starting this forum so that you and I can make a difference by posting YOUR OWN CONTRIBUTION TO ROAD & DRIVING SAFETY. It's time to give back to the society something good.

Do's and dont's are NOT welcome here since they point towards others. Better yet, start with I WILL, or FROM NOW ON...

- I will try to always be courteous & friendly even if others arent.
- From now on, I'll give myself a big amount of time to travel to
avoid speeding or even over-speeding.
- I will be responsible to keep my car always maintained in tip-top
condition.

(what about you my friend?)

- I'll make sure that theres more than 3 meters between me and the car in front of me.

- I'll check my rearview mirror in case some crazy driver tries to tailgate me again.

- I'll give way to cars in a hurry even if i'm in the right of way.

- I'll smile and curse under my breath (or in tagalog) whenever they cut me off or honk for unknown reasons.

I'll add some more later...

Now I see you have started 3 other threads which elicited 0 response...

in stead of blaming us maybe you should think about your thread topcis

No it is patronising that you assume I need to improve my driving and that QLers don't contribute to society.

I am an excellent driver! And I contribute a lot to the safety of the road in Qatar.

I do my bit already... and plenty of us here give something back to society.

Could be a lot are not serious enough to give something back to the society in return.

You know in pitching, when you get the ball, you ought to throw it back.

Konek? :)

I will continue following my private rule that "in roundabouts, camels have right of way."

I will stop at green lights to let others run the red

I will run the red lights as others will have stopped on the green

I will drive a 25kph in the middle lane so I am no bother to others

I will not make calls whilst driving

I will text as it's safer and less distracting

I will give way to emmergency vehicles

I will not give way to Taxis

I will use my bright headlights at night to help others see the road

I will use my rear foglights at all time to help others see me

- I will wave and smile to those that flash their lights and run close enough to squash a fly on my back bumper...and it will include all fingers not just the middle one...

- I will drive a smaller, much faster car, so that I can get OUT of the way of the larger more aggressivly driven ones.(yes, and wave and smile as they pass!)

- I will try and not cut off those that annoy the ever living poop out of me...ok now that will be a tough one...I am used to driving in Houston

- I promise to breathe deeply, and relax on the roads before a busy roundabout, not just hold my breath and jump in bumper first.

Thanks, Kiko...now I have more resolutions to work on...

Ok, ok, mine...

-> I will try my best not to ignore the traffic signs around.

-> I will say my prayers before leaving home!

-> I will not challenge myself or any other driver to race.

-> From now on, I will wear my eyeglasses when driving.

This is cool! I want to add more...

I will make sure that all my swearing to other drivers is in my mother tongue, rather than in English, and delivered with a big smile on my face to keep the mood up

I will make sure my next car is a Hummer H2

From now on I'll carry some sort of weapon in my car at all times
