No exaggerating bajesus. We are told over and over not to eat, drink, or smoke in public, that it is against the law. I lived in Kuwait and it was the same way there. However, Qatar is much more relaxed then Kuwait is.
I understand that a lot of it is done out of respect and I have no problem with that. I am a smoker and of course I find that the hardest. However, I'm in Canada at the moment and will miss all of Ramadhan. In some ways I'm disapointed that I'm not there. Can be a lot of fun with the festivities in the evenings.
