I used to sit on my balcony at my apartment in Beijing during the very occasional tropical storms and watch the sky light up with lightning and listen to the cracks of thunder -- it was a bit like watching my own personal climatic son et lumiere show -- and I would breathe in deeply, the damp, fresh smell of the wet earth, and feel at home.
