and sometimes they're more "on the spot" than the impressions that we have after having lived somewhere for a while.

 

When I lived in Buenos Aires, it was the long-termers and the lifers who proclaimed Buenos Aires to be the safest city they'd ever been in. . .never mind that they had ALL (repeat:  ALL) been mugged, carjacked, robbed at gunpoint, been kidnapped (or their kids or someone they knew) or ripped off. . .their new reality was a lifetime in Buenos Aires and they were determined to think the best of it.
