hey duncheski, well u may be allowed to stay back(if u want to)even after the trial..if ur muslim,u'll face punishment according to the shariah court and can expected minimum of 40 lashes for drinking..
if non muslim,ur lucky as u can escape the lashes, but i think ull be fined heavily for sure..not sure bout the jail term as i've seen it vary here according to ur nationality..
u from uk so i dont think ull have more than a month max in the can..
if u have the dough, think the charges against you are severe(as u havnt mentioned details)..go in for a good lawyer..u will be thrufine..beleive me it helps..sometimes its possible to close the case in the public prosecution itself, without having to go to court..but a lawyer/ur embassy may have to be involved..
Im speaking from experience of action taken being under the influence, but i wasnt driving at the time..not sure how strict they are with drink driving..
All the best..
..and no u cant leave the country unless u have some emergency back home for which u give adequate proof and put up some kind of bond(cash) and then u are allowed to leave,if ur crime not very serious..but having a lawyer(qatari pref) around is vital to ensure that all this happens in time ..
