As said above definitely get your license before you arrive, as this is not the place to learn! Taxis are cheap, and I've never met anyone who gave the buses a real go.
Socializing is what you make of it. Culturally local men more lecherous when it comes to single women out--as in if you are out on your own or with other women at night you are clearly up for it. Most expats come with families but there are singles too. Some good bars, several good gyms, but the best times to be had are with a group of friends at someone's home. All the expats have been in your shoes, so they will be welcoming and you'll make friends quickly!
