Pakistanis should be proud of these two girls. They have done very well.
For the rest of us it should highlight the importance of educating girls in maths and sciences and encouraging them to pursue careers in the traditionally male fields. In other words, we need to see more 'Mathgirls', not just 'Mathboys'.
Adey--I think I get what you are saying with the maps and agree to an extent, but keep in mind also that many of the papers being published in the sciences in the US and Europe are coming from Asians (either immigrants or children of immigrants). To me it shows how these countries' educational systems are under-serving their children.
PS--Mathboy--VG5 said all was well with you two, so as far as I am concerned we're good too. Apologies for any ill feelings.
