hey there, kabayan Gail...
not quite sure if Steve Clem's still around as his post is very much outdated but anyway, lemme share some thoughts. In addition to Andy's posts, the Corniche can be a rewarding spot for anglers like me... it's but a matter of time & tide: best to cast within 2-3 days after the new moon and within 2-3 days after full moon. Relevance of the moon? The Spring tides, as we call it. Best time during change of tides from high to low & vice versa. The bounty varies from the usual averaged sized silver bream (bakoko), occasional grouper (hamour) by chance, trevally, queenfish, garfish, needlefish, and the infamous rabbitfish (danggit). Your bait will tell the kind of fish you catch. Avoid the Pearl, anywhere in that area is strictly prohibited. If you're into Rabbitfish, best spot that I tried is Al Khor, right down the pier. Timing is very limited, make sure you dip your lines at dawn until about an hour after sunrise; I bet you won't even find time to light a cigarette as the danggit starts biting! An average 5-metre rod will do the trick: you can't handle an extra. Another good spot for rabbitfish is the Wakrah Port. Head straight up to the very fence of Wakrah Coast Guard station and fish to your right where the boats are docked. Otherwise, fish to your left and cast as far as you can for a variety of prey, including stingrays on live baits. Or yet, you are most welcome to join us on-board when we find another time offshore. We rent boats from the Dhow harbour. Anyone who's interested to join us in fishing trips (offshore, and share the cost of course ^_^)) may please email me at [email protected]. We usually take off from the harbour at 5am until 1pm on a Friday. Salamat po...
